Parishioners and friends of the parish are cordially invited to become a part of the music program here at St. Patrick’s. This parish is well known for its commitment to serious Catholic classical music, and we would like as many people to participate as are able to do so.
The following choral groups will begin rehearsals in September:
- St. Patrick’s Parish Choir, made up of volunteers, will be a mixed group (men and women), who will sing regularly for the Sunday Masses. Anyone aged 16 or over is welcome to be a member.
- The Schola Cantorum, a men’s group, will focus on Gregorian chant. Men from the Parish Choir, and any other men, are welcome to join.
- The Boys’ Choir and the Girls’ Choir, will allow children in the third grade and older to learn singing and musical skills through the Ward Method of music instruction, which was designed for Catholic schools and is based on principles of Gregorian chant.
The only entrance requirements for any of these choirs are the desire to sing and the willingness to commit to regular attendance. Instruction will be offered in singing technique and music reading. Adults who wish to join, or parents whose children may be interested, are urged to contact the organist and choirmaster,
Andrew Mills at (504) 493-5879.

Catholic World News reports that tourists visiting St. Peter’s basilica, and natives of Rome using the Vatican pharmacy or post office, are being gently turned away by Swiss Guards if they wear shorts; women are being asked to cover their shoulders. The stricter application of old rules for propriety in dressing have caught many tourists by surprise.
