St. Patrick’s Choirs Now Recruiting for New Season

“Since singing is so good a thing, I wish all men would learn to sing.” – William Byrd (1543-1623)

A new choral season will soon begin, and all parishioners and friends of St. Patrick’s are warmly encouraged to consider joining one of our choral groups. Volunteer participation is absolutely essential to the success of our music program; please prayerfully consider joining us this year!
The Parish Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings, and sings for the Latin Mass on Sunday mornings. Membership is open to men and women, and repertory is drawn from a broad spectrum of music written by great composers for Catholic worship.
The Schola Cantorum for men specializes in Gregorian chant, and sings the propers at the Latin Mass. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings.
The Boys’ Choir and the Girls’ Choir are open to children eight years of age and older; both groups meet on Friday afternoons. The children receive instruction in singing and music theory, with a view to introducing them to the great musical patrimony of the Church. Each group will sing at Mass about once a month.

No special training or experience is necessary to join any of these groups; instruction will be provided in vocal technique, reading music, and basic theory.

A Choral Singing Training Course will be offered on three Thursday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm – August 30, September 6, and September 13. Intensive studies will focus on the singing and reading skills necessary for choral music in general, and also on reading and interpreting the notation of Gregorian chant. Those who are considering joining the Parish Choir or Schola Cantorum are strongly urged to attend this course, which is free and open to anyone who may be interested.
