One of our parishioners, Ross Patrick Bourgeois, a recent graduate of Jesuit High School, has responded positively to the Lord’s call to the priesthood and will be pursuing his vocation with the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, a new religious order of priests in the Church devoted to the celebration of the Mass and sacraments in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. He will leave next month for the first phase of his formation in Chicago. Needless to say, we are all very proud of Ross for willingly and courageously accepting the Lord’s call.

The Order informed the pastor that the cost of Ross’s formation will run about $900.00 per month, and, therefore, he will need spiritual and financial sponsorship to support him in his journey to the priesthood. The pastor pledges immediate spiritual sponsorship by the Parish and hopes for volunteers from the Parish to provide financial sponsorship. If 20 parishioners were willing to pledge $11.25 per week, we would be able to reach the amount of Ross’s tuition, room and board for the duration of his seminary education. Please contact the pastor with your request to be a financial sponsor for our seminarian, and know that your sacrifice will eventually provide the Church with a fine priest devoted to the celebration of Holy Mass and the sacraments, in the Traditional Latin, “Extraordinary” Form of the Roman Rite.

National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor

New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond will celebrate a special Mass to invoke the intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor to protect the Gulf Coast from further effects of the oil spill and for the region’s recovery. Everyone is invited.

By now, most of our regular parishioners will have noticed the beautiful new hand-carved altar crucifix now in place on the high altar over the tabernacle. The pastor purchased this altar crucifix while on pilgrimage to Oberammergau, Germany to attend the decennial passion play last May. The previous altar crucifix, which had been borrowed from the sacristy, is now back in its proper place in the sacristy. The new high altar crucifix is exquisitely hand-carved of wood highlighted with gold leaf to blend perfectly with the high altar tabernacle and reredos. It also fulfills the traditional church custom that the altar crucifix should not stand lower than the altar candlesticks. The pastor hopes that this significant addition to the sanctuary of St. Patrick’s will provide a moving spiritual sign and focus in the church for many years to come.
