Father Anthony J. White, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, died on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. He was 88 years old.
A native of Cork, Ireland, Father White was ordained a priest in Dublin on July 3, 1955. He began his religious career as a missionary in Nigeria, and came to the United States in 1968.
Father White was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Patrick’s Church in May of 1990, serving with the pastor, Monsignor John P. Reynolds. During this time Father White continued as director of the archdiocese’s ministry to alcoholics and other drug addicts and their families, working from his rectory office at St. Patrick’s Church.
The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, October 1, 2016, at St. Joseph Church in Gretna at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be 9:00 AM-12:00. Please keep Father White, his family, and all who mourn his death in your prayers. May he rest in peace.

Notice on Churches Not in Communion with the Roman Catholic Church
It has come to our attention there are questions being raised about some churches offering religious services in our archdiocese that are called Catholic but are not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church. We are aware of two churches about which there is some confusion:
Our Lady of Grace Church in Kenner, LA
Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lacombe, LA
These churches are not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church. In addition, there are Sunday services being held at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve, LA which are described as Catholic but these services are not in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
Roman Catholics are advised that attending these churches or services does not fulfill one’s Sunday obligation because the churches or the priests offering the services are not in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. If there are any questions about a particular church or service, please contact the Vicar General’s office of the archdiocese.
Respect Life Sunday will be observed October 1-2, 2016. The parish will be selling the 2017 Right to Life Calendars this weekend. The calendars cost $5.00 and portray pro-life themes in beautiful full color graphics. The proceeds will help all the good pro-life work of New Orleans Right to Life, CYO, and other parish organizations. For more information: Jan Delcorral: (504) 952-7277 or email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
You are invited to join in the NOLA Life Chain, along with Archbishop Gregory Aymond, at the Planned Parenthood site, 4636 S. Claiborne Avenue, on Saturday, October 1, 2016, beginning at 10:00 AM. This is a new event in addition to the established 40 Days for Life observance. Please consider joining us to call for “Respect for Life”.
