Inspired by the striking action of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, who, with Emeritus Pope Benedict, last July 5, dedicated a new statue of St. Michael in the Vatican and then consecrated the Vatican City to the protection of the great Archangel, the Pastor has decided to establish a new shrine at St. Patrick’s to St. Michael. In consultation with other clergy and a number of parishioners, Fr. Klores has commissioned an eight foot high bronze statue of the Archangel from a remarkably gifted young sculptor in Florence, Italy. The sculptor is American but has lived in Italy for some years and teaches at the famed Academia in Florence. When the statue is complete, next year, it will be installed on the plinth situated between the Church and the Rectory at the entrance to the courtyard area. The Pastor will then consecrate the parish and all of the parishioners to the Protection of the Prince of the Heavenly Hosts. Hopefully, for this occasion, the sculptor and his wife will be present. Pictures of the statue in progress and any pertinent updates on the project will be posted in the Narthex of the Church.

Today, on this Feast of St. Michael the Archangel, between the 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses, Fr. Klores will dedicate and bless our wonderfully renewed courtyard under the patronage of St. Francis, whose statue has presided over our courtyard for many years. Very sincere and abundant thanks must be given to the three devoted parishioners, Phyllis Taylor, Sheila Davlin and Charlotte Bollinger, who sensed the need to renovate our lovely facility and then who volunteered unstintingly their “time, talent and treasure” to bring about the beautiful result that we see and bless today.
