In Memoriam: Harold Benn Judell

Mr. Harold Benn Judell, a faithful member of St. Patrick’s for over 45 years, gave his time, talent and treasure to restore and support St. Patrick’s Church. Mr. Judell was an early advocate of Monsignor John Reynolds whose dream was to rescue and restore St. Patrick’s Church. Monsignor’s dream became a reality when Mr. Judell, along with a group from the Church, petitioned Archbishop Philip Hannan to keep St. Patrick’s open and personally guaranteed a large loan necessary to replace the leaking roof and to waterproof the building. During the church’s restoration Mr. Judell’s legal and financial guidance was invaluable to Monsignor Reynolds in maintaining the stability of the parish.
Our prayers and deepest condolences are extended to the Judell family.

Lenten Scripture Study – Jesus’ Passion

A Lenten scripture study, Jesus’ Passion: The Story of Redemptive Suffering will be held on Wednesday evenings March 16, 23, 30 and April 6, 13, 2011 in the rectory. Using materials developed by Catholic Scripture Study International, the Catechism, and the 2004 film The Passion of the Christ, this study explores the sufferings Christ endured for the salvation of humankind through His Passion. Participants will prayerfully study the Passion scriptures, prepare weekly assignments, and share thoughts and findings in a group setting. An appropriate portion of the film will be viewed each week.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Bridal Show – Sunday, February 13, 2011

St. Patrick’s Church has been invited to participate in a Bridal Show sponsored by the magazine WEDDING STYLES. The event will take place on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Generations Hall, 310 Andrew Higgins Drive from 2:00pm – 5:00 pm. A booth will be set up to display photos of the church and staffed to answer questions and provide information on scheduling weddings in our beautiful church. There is an admission fee for this event; however, St. Patrick’s has complimentary tickets available. Please contact the office if you would like a guest ticket. Our sincere appreciation to Perfect Presentations for providing our floral displays for the show.

Choral Concert – February 18, 2011

On Friday, February 18, 2011 at 7:30 p.m., the New Orleans Vocal Arts Chorale will present a concert of sacred music here at St. Patrick’s. NOVA Chorale is one of the premier choirs in the city, and we are honored to welcome them as they sing Handel’s Dixit Dominus and a Mozart Mass, accompanied by an orchestral ensemble. Donations will be accepted at the church door. Please invite your friends, and plan to join us for this exciting event in the cultural life of our parish and our community.

Catholic Charities – February 12-13, 2011

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans serves thousands of vulnerable people across the Archdiocese in the name of Jesus through 42 programs and three affiliated ministries. Your generosity is needed during this special second collection at all Masses on February 12 and 13, 2011. St. Patrick’s to Sponsor a St. Joseph’s Altar

St. Patrick’s Church will sponsor a St. Joseph’s Altar at Ozanam Inn on March 18, 19, and 20, 2011. This beautiful tradition, dating back to when many Sicilians arrived in New Orleans at the end of the nineteenth century, is a special devotion to St. Joseph in fulfillment of promises made and favors granted.
Monetary donations are now being accepted to defray the cost of building a St. Joseph Altar on his special feast day. Please make your check payable to Ozanam Inn, specifying that it is for the St. Joseph Altar. We will soon be asking for volunteers to assist in the preparation of the altar. The purpose of Ozanam Inn is to provide an environment of loving concern and caring, of shelter and nourishment, to serve the homeless in a manner that does not diminish but rather preserves and promotes the selfhood and dignity of the needy and oppressed.
Ozanam Inn prepares and serves 600—650 meals each day; provides clothing for men, women and children, and for many years has had a very successful “in residence” rehabilitation program. These are only a few of the services provided by Ozanam Inn.
